Vision:
Becoming the creative, innovative, and excellent study program of food technology
Mission :
The Study Program of Food Technology of Bali Dwipa University is the one which focuses on the development of the technology of the application of science to process the foodstuffs obtained after harvest in order to improve their added value. Food technology is concerned with all steps of processing foodstuffs into the foods that can be consumed. The processing steps include sorting, preserving, packaging, and distributing. The foods that are produced should be sorted, preserved, packaged, and distributed in such a way that they are safe and nutritious enough to consume. It is the packaged foods that become the main focus of food technology. In food technology the physical, microbiological, and chemical natures of the foodstuffs are learned. Its specialisations vary; some of them are sorting, preserving, packaging, storing, etc
The courses provided in the first year are Physics, Biology, Chemistry, and Technique. These basic courses will allow the students to understand every scope of food technology. After that, students are provided with more specific courses, for example, biotechnology; a branch of Biology, through which the students can learn to use organism, that is, a biological process or system that can be applied to produce consumable foods. As an illustration, how to produce what is known as ‘frozen fish pempek’ so that it can be exported or sold at supermarkets with longer expiry period. Another illustration is how a banana chips factory buys hundreds of tons of bananas and sends them to the factory without degrading their quality (without causing the bananas to become rotted). In the Study Program of Food Technology, the students do not only learn the Natural Science-related courses but also Industrial Management, which is one of the important courses provided. The other courses provided are Food Processing Design, Microbiology and Food Safety, Food and Nutrition, Food Packaging, Drying and Cooling, Tea, Coffee, and Chocolate Technology, Atsiri Oil, Spices and Medical Technology, Fermentation Technology, Food Microbiology and Enzimonology, the tools and machines used in the food industrial process, how to plan to establish a factory or business in the food sector, and Entrepreneurship.
