ABOUT THE STUDY PROGRAM OF NUTRITION

The Study Program of Nutrition of Bali Dwipa University is the study program which is concerned with the organic substance needed by organism to support the normal function of the body system so that the body can grow normally and its health can be maintained. It is a department which is concerned with the sciences related to foods and what they contain (carbohydrate, protein, vitamin or mineral) and to the body as well. Apart from that, the students of the department of nutrition also learn what is generally and specifically needed by the body based on how people are. Simply, Nutrition is a science which studies foods and their relation to human health. According to the nutritionist team of the Higher Education of Nutrition of Indonesia, Nutrition is a science which studies the essences of foods that are useful to the body; the processes taking place from the time when foods are consumed, digested, absorbed to the time when they are used by the body, and their impacts on the body, its growth and productivity, and human survival. Therefore, what is learned by the students of the department of nutrition is closely related to our health and the foods we consume, and to many aspects related to the nutrition consumed by people, meaning that what is learned cannot be separated from the deep investigation of the relationship between the foods consumed and health. More specifically, this study program is concerned with nutrition and health, the human growth and its productivity, the relationship betweem nutrition and agricultural, economic, social and cultural sectors, and the human quality. What is learned in this department is what is needed by the body and the extent to which it is ideally needed.


WHAT IS LEARNED IN THE STUDY PROGRAM OF NUTRITION?

In this study program we learn food ingredients and how they are processed before they are consumed. Apart from that, this department also learns nutrient contents, how significant they are to the body, the interactions of nutrient contents and non-nutrient contents which can affect the body. This department Ualso learns how to organize diet for those who are healthy and sick. The competencies of the graduates of the Undergraduate Program of Nutrition are mastering the basic theory of nutrition, food science, biomedicine, public health, statistics, social anthropology, economics, management, humanities, and the knowledge of serving and the privilege of becoming nutritionists in the national health system, food security system, and national nutrition. In addition, they also acquire the dietetic theoretical concepts in depth that can be applied to formulate what to do to overcome the individual, collective and institutional food- and nutrition-related problems (including industry). They are also able to develop and modify products and give nutritional services to individuals, groups of people, society, and institutions (including industries) based on the result of analysis of general and specific nutritional and food problems systematically. They are also able to make accurate decisions what to do to develop food products using a standard method, and to interpret the result of the biochemical and clinical investigation; apart from that, they are also able to give alternative nutritional and food problem solutions within the work scope; As well, they are responsible for the independent or collective work results; they have critical attitude and are emphatic towards clients and work team both in the internal and external levels. The Obligatory Courses of the Study Program of Nutrition are: Anatomy, Introduction to Nutrition, Food Science, Introduction to Culinary, Energy Metabolism and Macro Nutrients, Food Analysis, Degenerative Disease Dietetics, Nutrition Metabolism of Pregnant Mothers, Food Quality Control, Immunology and Nutrition.
